Part 1: Elect A Leader to Maintain the Original RPV Goals

Electing a leader who will maintain the original goals for Rancho Palos Verdes is critical in this upcoming election.

How many of you have read and are familiar with Rancho Palos Verdes’ General Plan and/or the Housing Element? I have and I am sharing the RPV General Plan and a very important excerpt from the plan to note:

With its incorporation, the City of Rancho Palos Verdes became the youngest of the four cities on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, each of which had incorporated for the same basic reason – to take control of planning and policy implementation over the area in order to preserve its natural beauty, openness and small community atmosphere.

When my husband and I chose to live in RPV 13 years ago, it was the RPV General Plan that helped guide that decision. In addition to that document, when we were looking at our current house, that same day they were having their block party, and it reminded me of my “neighborhood” back in Ohio, we selected our current home in RPV.  “An actual neighborhood” in California that is not dense (previously lived in Redondo Beach). We take care of our neighbors, everyone in RPV, I consider a neighbor.

I now chair our neighborhood Block Party Committee and am a board member because I care about my neighborhood.  I care about all of RPV, all my neighbors and that is why I am running for RPV city council.

My husband and I live in the most wonderful neighborhood with the most wonderful neighbors.  RPV is a wonderful city, neighborhood.  We should not take it for granted as the current laws removing local control will drastically change our city.

All residents need to make the effort and become better informed as to what is happening to our city and all of California.  Take the time, invest in your city and make the right choice for city council.

WHO YOU VOTE FOR AND ELECT FOR CITY COUNCIL IS SO VERY IMPORTANT WHEN IT COMES TO THE HOUSING ELEMENT AND POTENTIAL DEVELOPMENT.

Your next City Councilmember:

o Should not have any financial ties to developers

▪ My 3 opponents, Perestam, Chura and Lewis are being financed by James York and Long Point Development. $50,000 is a lot of money from a developer to finance a city council candidate. Everyone should question as to the why or is it obvious and the status quo argument with our committees, commissioners and council members? Two years ago they were financed by Terranea, this year by the developer. Our neighborhood experienced it first hand with the 0 Clipper parcel on the Housing Element. Do not allow outside developers influence decisions for our city.

o Must be very knowledgeable (SME) with the HCD requirements, legislation both current and what is being proposed and RPV Housing Element.

▪ I have spent the last 3 years becoming a SME with all the current California laws and all the new legislation to understand better and grass roots efforts to fight back.

▪ I have completely read and understand our RPV Housing Element with feedback to our council and planning commission. I have done my due diligence and our neighborhood was able to effect change and a Housing Element Amendment to save our neighborhood from a developer.

• Two of my opponents, Perestram and Chura are on the Housing Element Ad Hoc Committee along with two council members and that committee approved a site which was identified as an environmental/ safety concerns as next to the slide area. Our neighborhood was able to work through HCD and in response to neighborhood concerns, they identified that the site could be removed.

o Demonstrated leader with grass roots effort to better inform and active community engagement. ONV handout is attached to what I handout about me to better inform.

▪ I have been actively involved in Our Neighborhood Voices (ONV), and Livable California trying to better educate and resident involvement in the south bay and all of California.

• I question my opponents and any effort in this area until recently now that they are running for city council. I know what they are saying but question what they have actually done.

“My goals and why I am running is to unite RPV neighbors and the entire peninsula to work together and address current major issues with the land slide, crime, budget and housing element and restore our original goals that our city was founded.”

I have the qualifications needed for the City Councilmember role. I hope that I can count on your vote in this election.
